Terms of Use
The terms on which 529 Decision Center is offered. Using the site means accepting them.
Last reviewed
These tools produce educational estimates from assumptions you supply. They are not financial, tax, investment or legal advice, and using them does not create a professional relationship of any kind.
What the site is
529DecisionCenter.com publishes calculators that project how a 529 savings balance might grow, and what the rules appear to allow you to do with it. Every result is a projection built from figures you enter and from published assumptions you can inspect on the methodology page.
Not advice, and not a substitute for it
Nothing here is personalised advice. The site does not know your full financial position, your tax situation, your family circumstances or your goals, and it does not attempt to recommend a course of action. It shows you what a set of assumptions implies, and leaves the decision with you.
For decisions that matter, consult a qualified professional — a licensed financial adviser, a tax professional, or your 529 plan administrator — who can consider your actual circumstances.
Accuracy, and its limits
The calculations are deterministic, tested, and checked against independent implementations. That makes the arithmetic reliable. It does not make the answer correct for you, for three reasons:
- Projections are not predictions. Investment returns and college costs are entered as assumptions. Real returns vary, and past performance does not indicate future results.
- Rules change, and coverage is incomplete. Tax law, plan terms, state benefits and financial-aid treatment change. Where a rule could not be verified against a source, the site says so on the page rather than guessing.
- Your inputs drive the output. A projection built on an optimistic return assumption is an optimistic projection. The tools show you the assumptions in use so you can judge them.
The site is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. We do not warrant that the content is complete, current or error-free, and we are not liable for any loss arising from decisions taken in reliance on it.
Acceptable use
You may use these tools freely for your own planning, and link to them. You may not scrape the site at a volume that degrades it for others, attempt to breach or probe its security, misrepresent its output as personalised advice from a licensed professional, or republish its content as your own.
Independence
529 Decision Center is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any 529 plan, plan administrator, state agency, brokerage or financial institution. No plan pays to appear here, and no result is influenced by any commercial arrangement.
Content and intellectual property
The text, design and calculation engine are the property of 529 Decision Center. Underlying facts — tax rules, published college cost figures, state plan terms — are not ours and are attributed to their sources where they are used.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change as the site does. The review date at the top shows when they were last revised; continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the revised terms.
